On January 15th, 2012, we will be ending our Cheezburger Collectibles program and retiring Cheezburger Coins. Your existing Collectibles will still be featured and viewable on your Cheezburger Profile, but we will no longer be awarding new Collectibles after January 15th.
Since many of you are fans of our Collectibles, we wanted to let you know in advance about the end of the program. We want to thank you all for participating. As much as we wanted to continue making Cheezburger Collectibles, we could not devote the resources to continue to grow the program and it remained a niche program for our audience of more than 20 million users. Instead, we want to devote our time and resources into features that can benefit the entire community.
Since the Collectibles Program is ending, we will also be retiring Cheezburger Coins and offering a full refund (or LOLmart store credit in the form of a gift certificate, your choice) for any and all Coins purchases made during the life of the program.
We have compiled an FAQ to answer any questions you may have about the Collectibles Program or the Cheezburger Coins refund. If something is not covered below, please let us know in the comments or by contacting Cheezburger Customer Service.

Why is Cheezburger ending the Collectibles Program?
Though we have greatly enjoyed running the Collectibles Program, we are not able to devote the resources needed to turn the program into something truly special and uniquely Cheezburger. As a company, we want to make sure that we’re focusing our efforts on creating programs and features for the whole Cheezburger community.
When is my last day to receive a collectible?
After 9pm PST on January 14th, 2012, you will no longer receive a collectible after visiting two or more pages of an I Can Has Cheezburger or Memebase site.
Will I be able to buy any more Cheezburger Coins for purchasing collectibles?
Cheezburger Coins will no longer be available for purchase after 12pm PST on December 15th, 2011.
Will my collectibles still be visible on my Cheezburger Profile?
Your collectibles will still be featured on your profile to show off all of the hard work you put into compiling your collections. Users who sign up for a Cheezburger Profile after January 15th will not receive collectibles via site visits but will be able to receive them as gifts from friends until April 15th, 2012.
What will happen to Cheezburger Trophies?
There will be no change to the Cheezburger Trophies feature and you will continue to receive trophies when you hit a Cheezburger milestone.
Can I still gift and trade my collectibles?
You will be able to trade collectibles with your Cheezburger friends until April 15th, 2012.
Will I be able to get any of the old collectibles to complete my sets?
On January 15th, 2012, we will be making every previously offered collectible available for one month at the price of 1 Cheezburger Coin each. You will be able to use your existing Cheezburger Coins to purchase these collectibles. Receiving the LOLmart refund for previously purchased Cheezburger Coins will not remove them from your profile.
How do I get my Cheezburger Coins refund?
We will be sending out an email to all past purchasers of Cheezburger Coins with details on how to receive your refund or LOLmart store credit. If you have any additional questions, please contact Cheezburger Customer Service.
While I will miss the collectibles, I fully understand the decision to end the program. It was fun while it lsted, and many of us made lots of new friends. I have just one comment about cheez coins – I wish you had given us another day to purchase coins and not end this so abruptly. I loved the idea of being able to support ICHC in that way, and thought that the value of purchasing coins for collectibles was a great way to support ICHC without buying more “stuff” that I didn’t need. Also, as many of my cheezpeeps from outside the US have problems purchasing coins, I liked to get the coins to buy extras for my friends. Personally, I don’t want a refund for my coins or a gift certificate. I consider that money well spent supporting ICHC.
We appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy all the great content we offer.
I don’t intend to leave ICHC. I love this place! I just loved the idea of purchasing the coins to buy collectibles. I thought it was a great way to support ICHC financially without buying things I don’t really need. The collectibles were a fun idea.
I hated the collectibles when they were first offered; now I’m an addict. I’ll miss them but totally understand the need to channel resources into what benefits the community as a whole.

It would have been nice if you had created a poll to find out just how many folks would like to keep the collectible program, at least let us think it matters what we want.
And, in my opinion, it was absolutely bogus of you to end the coin availability without giving anyone time to buy any. I have not bought coins before but I surely would have in order to help friends get the really rare collectibles they’re missing. It is a completely empty, worthless gesture to say we will have a month to buy collectibles we’re missing when we have not been able to get any coins in order to do so.

I agree that the coins shouldn’t have been abruptly ended without notice. That’s one of the main things that I had started disliking about the site, is doing stuff without asking us first, or having a vote on.
However, I will be glad to receive the refund on past coins purchased, because I got into trouble last year for buying coins for all those turkeys that I helped some of my friends get.
I don’t have that many coins left in my bank, but I guess I could use those to get those hard to get thermometers for some special friends here.
i think you should just start the collectibles over from the first. i am currently sad that there are so many collectibles i was never there to receive.i would give you a fair warning that the main reason i continue to visit cheezburger/memebase daily, and there are most likely others who say the same.

i love the collectibles and think that ending them is a mistake. i have never had the opportunity to purchase coins and think it’s unfair that i will never accumulate a collection as large as i had wanted. now i have to grovel to my more fortunate friends to get me any collectibles i want b4 its too late!!

At least 24 hours notice on the coins would have been nice. I too would have liked to buy all the collectibles I’m missing. I realize we can’t vote on every little change, but something like this should have had a heads up.

I really don’t get it! As Collectibles were a nice way to encourage users to visit more than one page. The community warned you in the past that you could not keep up creating two sets every week, and had concern about letting new users getting old items, you ignore those voices, and now you simply cancel the whole program. I think it is a shame! Me and my cheezfriends spent a lot of time updating our collection, exchanging items and hunting for those rares. I can’t really express how bad I fell about this move. You are about to have one less frequent visitor to your site group.

Same here. Many wonderful folks helped me get mine too. I have a couple of real close friends that I’m trying to help them with theirs.
Any left over coins will go towards getting the extras for them.

My voice is going to join the others – it would have been nice to have a vote or poll regarding this before you made the decision. Just as it would have been nice to purchase more coins before hand in order to have the rarer collectibles for those that join late.
You could have easily asked our opinions. The frequency that you created collectible sets was set by you. When you changed it to an active week and two weeks of purchasability, there was some discussion and I’m sure alot of emails sent direct.
I understand that the creating of the sets as well as dealing with any problems are a drain on the company’s time and energy but the coins have been a source of income as little or minor as you may want to consider it. Maybe you’ve been getting enough ad money that you don’t need the income generated by coin sales. That’s of no interest to me save I don’t think I ever visited any of your sponsors or the advertisers. And I block the cookies they may send as well.
I will admit that it is likely that I will not be visiting as many of the sites as often once the collectibles stop. As amusing and fun the sites under ICHC are, the obsessive in me made sure that I got my collectible fix every day. Then you added membase ones and I had to visit there to collect that one which was sometimes a problem since if I surfed at work, it blocked the “adult subject site.” There are sites that I would have not voluntarily visited on my own without the ‘nudge’ to get the ‘other set’.
This seems to be yet another missed opportunity. If you stated the problem and asked our opinion, you may have been surprised with what some of us came up with. But now you never will.
I will say that the collectibles have given me friends from across the world and I have enjoyed trading with them. I hope that the friendships continue once our original connection as traders dies away.
Oh well one less thing I need to log into everyday. I not saying the collectibles were the only reason why I logged on each day, I love checking out the LOL’s but it will one less place I NEED to log into everyday. Now I can skip a day or two & not worry about missing a collectible, buying coins asking people for extras. Thank goodness for Get Glue, I can still get my stickers for that type of fix! I love collecting the collectibles, it will be sad to see them go but we must move on, accept the changes and enjoy the web site for the LOL’s. Yes I am disappointed and upset ICHC has decided to end this program but I still love the LOL’s so I will not be leaving, just coming on less often.
Personally I’d rather have the Collectibles than the Cheezburger Sites. I’m not really into wanting to maintain my Chezzeburger Site – I already have twitter, facebook, google + to do that. I just don’t really see the added value in it since we all can view everyone profile pages but then I’m sure for some folks they love it so I’m not going to say get rid of it just now but it’s not for me. I wonder how many people really like & use it?
It would have been a good idea to poll the Cheezy Peeps on what we use, like, dislike etc and gave people a warning about the coins a week ago to say it’s going to end soon & give us some time to buy the coins if need be. Let’s hope this change does not cause less people to visit the site but I’m sure it will happen. Time will tell is this was a good move or not.

I only wish that you could stop the trading sooner, but I will be glad come April 16th when the friend requests will be from people who actually want to talk with me, instead of collectible junkies who just repeatedly harrass me for those silly meaningless icons. I will be looking forward to April 16th so I won’t have to deal with any more idiots who can’t read “no new friend requests” constantly trying to friend and re-friend me to ask for my extra collectibles.

I really enjoy ICHC, the LOLs, and the collectables. I urge to to reconsider this decision — like many Cheezburger members, I have made many friends and traded collectable with them. This is something I would really like to continue doing. I still have not completed the LOLrus Pool Party and Dr. Tiny Cat’s Trauma Center and have been ever hopeful that someday I would be able to. I hope that ICHC will change their minds about this decision.

I totally understand your decision to channel resources elsewhere as I know it takes time and effort to create new sets and tweak the program periodically. But I do have a certain sadness they will be gone because many of us really enjoyed playing with our virtual collections and it was a way for us to keep in touch sometimes. No time to chat, but here’s a collectie to let u know I am thinking of u. It also was a great way to introduce us to other sites. I had never visited Memebase until the collecties started and then found I enjoyed some of those LOLs. I had just purcahsed 200 coins cuz I do like gifting them to frens and have gifted almost 600. I was surprised to see that I had just randomly got in under the 12 Dec wire before u cut off the coin purchases. I think you should have allowed a little longer to purchase them. But I do know the coins are the chatter du jour and that most peeps are unhappy they are going away. But thanks for the fun and hope u think of other things to amuse ourselves when we’re not making LOLs or chatting. For instance I really loved your Scavenger Hunt.

I asked a very valid question the other day and my post is stilli n moderation? I didn’t say anything nasty or untoward I just asked a question.
On April 15th when Trading Ends… Will the collectibles we already have vanish completely? Or is that tab on our profile page always going to be available to view.
I have a complete set, I worked very hard on getting a complete set (I have extras if people need any, just ask me).
But I want to know where the collectibles are going after April 15th, Are the ones we have staying indefinitely? Or are they all hitting the road?
If that’s the case I will be angry. (I’m disappointed now but will live) but I probably spent well over $100 over the course of the coin program to help myself, my mom and others complete their collections. If the collectibles are vanishing for good after the 15th of April when trading is suspended, I certainly hope I get refunded all the money I spent buying coins.
Please do not moderate this one as well, I am asking nicely as I did the first time around too.
I wanted to let you know i looked through the posts and did not see anything. Sorry if it was missed. I will try and answer your questions if it is not already covered in the FAQ. The Tab on your profile page will always be available, even after the 15th of april. As also noted in the post and the FAQ we will be issuing a full refund to all purchasers of coins since the start of the program. Hope this answers your questions.

Please don’t cut off the gifting! I have many, many collectibles that I won’t have time to gift before April 15th. Cut off new sets if you absolutelly must, but don’t stop us gifting them, or at least not for much, much longer.
Does this mean because you won’t be spending time with collectibles, you will have more time to monitor submissions better and get rid of the porn and nudity some users post? Doesn’t do any good reporting it, no one does anything about it.

It really sucks. I love coming here and getting collectibles. I love meeting people and talking trading. I’m sorry that you feel like you have to get rid of them. I really think this is going to upset alot of your users. Also you dropped the coins so fast we couldn’t get any to buy the collectibles we need.
I just thought you lovely folks should know that I’m getting the old collectibles now instead of this week’s. I hope this bug will be fixed soon.
We are aware there are old collectibles showing up today. We put up a few old sets that were hard to get from a while back to give people a opportunity to complete those sets.
I’ve really enjoyed meeting cheezpeeps thru the collectible program, that’s the best part. Coming to ICHC to see what collectibles I’d get was part of my daily routine; I think I’ll feel a bit lost without it…
But what the heck is going on today? I just went to ICHC and GraphJam and got a Beach Ball and a Watermelon Cat from old, long-retired sets (and neither of which I needed), but NOTHING from either of the new sets that came out today! I wuz robbed — pls fix!!!
Can anyone tell me how long the new sets will be out? Because I have had a lot of trouble the last 2 weeks with being able to complete a set by myself and this morning, though I appreciate the gesture , and was able to help a friend I received the LOlrus collectible NOT a new one which I need more, I do not have enough coins to purchase the complete sets myself (I have 3 left, as I wasted more than was needed apparently now that everything will be 1 coin) getting the 2 collectibles from last week I could not get, IF these 2 new sets are only here for a week then I have no hope of ever completing them as everyone will be using the few coins they have left for the super old ones….PLEASE tell me we will have enough time to get them all,

Oh, that was a nice surprise. Clappities for putting a couple of old sets on! Those 2 were notoriously difficult to get. I have already been able to compete some frens’ sets. I have a suggestion. Can u eliminate the part of the program that prevents someone from gifting a collectie when u only have one? I manage two community sites for theme parties and poetry/inpspiration/memorials, 1KSO and Dr.TinyCatz that have randomly gotten or been gifted colleties but I never made any effort to get them nor will I make any effort to complete those set. But I sure would love to be able to give them all away. Also will he original plan to offer all the retired sets starting 15 Jan for 1 coin each still happen?
The capabilities of the system does not allow for gifting from a account with only the 1 in your inventory. Yes the original plan to offer all the collectibles for 1 coin each as of Jan 15th is still the plan

If you need more the 20 retired collectibles for your set, then you’re either very new here or you haven’t been working on your collection much.
Just realized I can’t buy from sets I don’t have any collectibles from. I didn’t know the collectibles thing was going on until it had been going for a while, as I would browse the site by way of a daily email that had all the lols that were posted that day.
The first sets I collected as they were released were Birds of Memebase/Evolution of the Cat, and I (luckily) bought Wolfpack, Keyboard Cat, and Poptart Cat the last day they were up for purchase.
Hey all. I’m toying with the idea of starting my own collectibles game site that would extend the cheezburger collectibles game. You would be able to import your collection. Users would have the opportunity to buy/sell any items in their collections to others as well as initiate new sets (we’d probably have voting to decide whose set is featured in a given week) and you can earn daily coins by logging in, to help you make purchases.
I will consider setting up the game to start Jan 15, 2012. The game would likely be not-for-profit and not cost you anything. Probably no ads, probably not a very pretty site, but enough to get your collectibles fix.

Rather disappointed. The collectibles are what got me into the habit of checking this site daily in the first place. Was it not possible to simply cut back on the number of sets being released? I remember when I first joined sets were not released nearly as frequently.
Anyway, it will be a part of the site I will be quite sad to see go.
