We have an update we’d like to share with you about comments!
Beginning on Monday, only registered users will be able to comment on our sites. Once you’ve registered with us you’ll be able to see all of your comments under “My Comments” on your profile. Also, your comments will no longer sit in moderation for quite as long, which allows you to comment more and keep up with the conversation. Of course you’ll still be able to comment using your Facebook profile as well.
Stay tuned as we continue to make Cheezburger a happier place!
And we’ll leave you with this adorable picture…

I don’t want to have to sign in anywhere for anything ever. Also, I deleted my old Cheezburger account because the whole interface of the profile was screwy and it made doing anything difficult.
I guess we don’t need you anymore. Good bye!
I AM USING ALL CAPS FOR NO REASON. I SEE NO FAULT IN THIS NEW POLICY. I WILL ENJOY TRACKING MY COMMENTS.
Keep lookin at the kittehs, Mike. You seem kinna grumpy. You gots to live the cheez.
Hey, Cheezburger, I have an idea: stop shoving these new things at us. I still have the new site layout and would go back if it wasn’t forced down my throat despite the 93% disapproval of it. You’re acting like Judge Judy. “No. We’re right. You will do what we say because we’re better than you.” What’s the point of making people register to comment? To say there are X,000,000 registered users. There is no reason.
No good reason.*
Nice. This will get rid of any trolls who bring up politics or religion.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, fool!
You dare call me a fool?
How am I a fool?
It is against my religion to call anyone a fool, and I think you are not one, anyway. but I didn’t use my real name so you have no idea who I am, and even if you know my e-mail, it’s not hard to make another.
“But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.” – Matthew 5:22
I’m not gonna go through an annoying religious lecture, but thanks for thinking that I’m not a fool.
ROFL!!! not hardly. I exist
No, this will simply make them make multiple accounts to troll you with.
If you think having to sign in will stop the political and religious debates you are perhaps one of the most naive people on the internet.
Trolls like Bobby Joe?
He’s registered already.
This just prevents anybody from casually interacting with the site.
Now, it’s a lifestyle commitment to post on CheezNet.
Oh well.
Good job on making yet another poor decision to drive people away.
Noticed there’s no downvote option on the update this time, guess you learned your lesson last time. Have you noticed that your traffic stats are taking a nosedive? Did you really think that making it harder for people to interact with your site will encourage more traffic?
Not interested in a list of all prior comments; what is the point of membership?
There is no point of membership other than to hassle people who would otherwise just like to look at cute photos. Ever try leaving a comment about the videos? You can’t unless you are on facebook which I am not.
Too bad the editors do not care what subscribers think. The point of requiring membership is so they can censor out any opinions/comments which disagree with them.
Hate this change. hate the new site. starting to hate cheezburger. change is good. I like change, but some changes are bad. and the sooner Cheezburger realise that the better.
Deal with it.
I will not
I think I’ll be packing my bags.
Goodbye, we won’t need you anymore. GTFO!
And YOU’RE the one concerned about trolls, lol.
Wait, this made it through moderation? Why are they bothering with moderation again?
UGH. Can you go back to disqus then at least? Signing in is annoying. STAHP!
dude, you can have it remember you on the computer…
well there goes another portion of the viewers, wasn’t the layout change bad enough?
Why?
Has has thee been too many trolls? Do sites that require registration get trolled that much less that it makes sense or do you just want to get people to subscribe? Subscribers do add to site’s value if it’s about to be sold.
Seeing this gave me a flashback about The Onion’s paywall. I have been coming here for few years and commented every once and a while. It was nice to comment on stuff but I probably never added anything of any value so no one will lose anything. I think I’ll come and click through everything just like always. Just that when ever I see something that I’d like to comment on I will feel a bit irritated that I can’t. I still can read this site unlike Onion. Just that now there’s nothing that separates it from competition.
Art of trolling exists.. this cant be to stop the trolls, user names has never stopped the trolls.
What you guys going to do next? Go to Seattle and protest outside of HQ?
9gag maybe ?
No.
NO.
Yes, I mean, I’m concrete, and no one can’t never blink… 134 Is blind, that doesn’t count,
Anyway, just move me with 682, 096, and Ol’ 106 to memebase HQ.
I know what i’m doing, this rebar also strengthens my (nonexistant) thinking ability.
Not fond of the idea, but it will cut down on the troll traffic… I guess… or at least make them easier to boot off.
Finally, someone that gets the idea.
What, that the trolls will make mass amounts of throw-away accounts? I currently have no account myself, feeling the screen-name / email requirement was good enough, but unless they require a valid email to ‘activate’ the account, this doesn’t stop anyone from making a hundred throw-away accounts to spam and troll with.
Of course, if they do, that just means they’ll be padding the lists of people with yahoo and hotmail accounts… which I suppose will lead to the network blanket banning use of free email accounts to create accounts with, thereafter.
No it won’t. It is just a form of censorship. They will not publish any comment which is not complimentary to them.
Says the one trolling people who have opinions that are as valid as yours.
You realize you practically killed the “thedailywhat” site? Your interface is not user-friendly, the layout is not intuitive, and now this? Good luck. I stopped coming a long time ago, just came by to see if something changed, but no. Good work.
Well, I guess I’m never commenting again.
To elaborate; an unpopular change is not made okay by people getting used to it.
I think Cheez is on a suicide run. They have to know what they’re doing is/has drastically reduced the site’s users.
Oh, and “Stay tuned as we continue to make Cheezburger a happier place!”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…yeah, these comments sound really happy.
Upvote!
People do not like change in general.
A good UI change is one that gets fewer complaints… and is something users can get use to.
Well, so much for those humorous account names… like one I use from time to time
Cheezburger, why not check the opinions of your users before you go and make chages to the website? What you are thinking of doing isn’t necessarily what the people want. Now, you will have lost much traffic due to this mistake, and it could have all been prevented.
I’m not sure what’s gotten into the mind of the staff at Cheezburger. A year ago, they had a thriving, user-friendly site that everyone loved & raved about to friends and got hundreds of comments a post. Now, they put out this horrendous, clunky, ad-ridden layout, which got HUGE disapproval (like another commenter said, the down vote was about 93%). Since they are down to just a few comments per post, I guess they decided even that was too much. Really, they couldn’t have driven this site down into the ground faster if they were purposely trying.
It’s been sad to watch the fall of once a such a great network.
True dat.
No problem as long as it works for mobile.
So, what about those times when we occasionally want tot use a name that’s only relevant to the one specific post? For example on the Video Games Memebase site, Portal-related posts have had a few amusing conversations between Chell, Wheatley, and GLaDOS; or on TF2-themed ones you’ll see names like Pyro, Sniper, and Heavy.
Will this new change let you modify your username per post for things like this, or is it one specific name everywhere on Cheezburger, Memebase, and Failblog?
*to use
So… Is that a no? My post was in moderation for over 48 hours, and still not answered. I never commented much myself, but I did enjoy reading comments. I don’t think I’ll be making an account here, and I don’t understand why the change had to be made, but I can get used to it. With all this negative feedback, I’m actually pretty surprised the mods went through with it.
BAD IDEA.
Your changes suck, and you should feel bad about it.
Reddit thanks you for sending some of your viewers to them.
The contents on here are usually just reposts from there anyway.
Trolls are usually spotted and ignored, if you’ve got half a brain. Plus, if this is because of trolls, you realize you have a site devoted to trolling? So you like it there, when its done to other people and sites, I guess.
This is just a little depressing. As a lurker is how I interact; now I guess I won’t interact at all.
So your plan to gain the edge over your competitors is to reduce inclusivity? All right, it’s your web network and you can discourage as many casual viewers from initial interaction as you desire.
*you’re…see what you made me do?!
I don’t remember if I registered, signed, wtf, will you please let me know if so, and if not, where and how? Thx
Ok, but what about the cheezburger interface on smartphones? I wouldn’t mind logging if I could…but there is no login field in the mobile version of your website.
Hi ThomasM -There is a place to login on the mobile version of our website. There is a Login tab next to the Featured Vote and Search tabs. If you have any issues finding the button, email us at contactus@cheezburger.com Thanks!
DO NOT WANT.
All of these changes are pretty dumb!
Remember back when you created this new layout you praised the fact that we didn’t have to log in to comment? That’s the only thing I liked about this update, but now that its gone, I’m gone. Au revoir.
Pathetic how they don’t even have a downvote button on this post. Just goes to show.
And honestly, didn’t you learn anything from the LAST time you did a GREAT update?
Obviously not.
So… a new layout; which is bad… Removing “Things that are doing it”, “My food looks funny”, “Must have cute”, and other pages was bad… Why do you think this “must suscribe”-thing is going to be any better? I loved this site. I really did.
But now? You took away all the good and funny pages, and you added crap like dolan? “Ugly tattoos” is only making fun of sometimes great & awesome tattoos lately. Even half of the rage comics that make front page aren’t even remotely funny. What happend?? Are the mods just going “Put all the things on the front page”?
Cheezburger is going downhill fast…
Thank you for making this a little less inclusive. Delete from bookmarks, delete from profile. Way to go. Everything fun becomes exclusive. So much for all the liberal bent of everyone being the same, and all inclusive. Trash.
Got a problem with liberals?
So here we are – I click on the photo on The Daily What so that I can (resignedly) register – and you offer me a page that doesn’t include registration, and has no links to registration. Heck of a good job, Brownie!
Why don’t you actually FIX the Cheezburger comments first?! EVERY single LOL that I look at has the Facebook comments under the picture, then a section that says “Cheezburger Comments”, but which is followed by loading swirlys that just sit there and swirl… The non-Facebook comments NEVER load!
Hi Humans Are Fail – What browser are you using? We’re aware that IE8 isn’t compatible with our comments, but the other browsers should be working. If you continue to have issues, please send us an email at contactus@cheezburger.com and we can help. Thanks!
Thank you for the reply; I was not aware of the browser issue! It would be nice if the comments could be made to work with IE8, though.
I’m using Chrome and the same thing is happening to me. It’s been happening for the past few weeks, and I had hoped that the change would fix things. Needless to say, it did not.
Just don’t make us sign in to vote, and I’ll be happy. But I have noticed that some of the best comments are by people without accounts.
Then again, I’ve never seen a troll with an account.
Well, i have an account and i know about the comments feature, but it needs something that warns you when someone replied, so you can keep track of the conversations, just like it was on the WordPress interface.
I can see why: Make it easier to filter out, and control, the spam (and trolls).
Thats sad because I enjoy reading and posting comments and not having an account to do so was awesome. I put up with the layout change but this is way to much, I guess I will stop coming to this site.
At this rate we are going to have to create an account just to view any of the funnies…
Shh! Don’t give them ideas!
Your changes are bad and you should feel bad. Also, your increasingly up-tight corporate nature runs contrary to the spirit of your subject matter. Attempts to control and censor users will lead to retaliation and/or loss of site traffic.
Downvote.
I’m going to like being able to keep up with my comments without having to bookmark each one, but wheredafah did the daily what geek go??????? First, no my food looks funny, now not TDW geek? *sad face*
*no, not not
Well it was nice visiting your websites guess that is over.
11:00 A.M. – 22 comments
12:00 P.M. – 75 comments
Boy, did that escalate quickly.
Not really. You’d think such a sweeping change would generate a bit more feedback from the community, unless it really has shrunk that much. Weren’t there something like 30,000 downvotes when they introduced the layout change?
Probably everyone that replied before is not bothering to do so now, since it’s clear that they aren’t being listened to.
I tried to sign up and your stupid sign-up screen wouldn’t let me
Try not putting spaces in your name. I had that problem because I put a space between n and M.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLlllllll
LOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOOOOOOOOOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLLOLOLOL
Ok I did that… It is OK… Cool that I can see my comments all in one place, but I cannot see my likes and dislikes. some things are worth liking but not worth commenting on. If there is a feature like like this, please tell me how to use it; if there is not, please add one and tell me how to use it.
I’m just upset because I like to go on memebase and leave a small comment on how I’m pleased with a post… This just kinda… Stops me. Although I do think it will keep out a bunch of trolls, and other stuff like them. Well, away I go. *flies away on donkey*
And I can see that puppies butt hole… Just pointing it out.
Well, the list of comments is nice, but the rage comment codes don’t work, although strangely smiley codes do…
Your site is bad and you should fix it! (please correct me if i spelled anything wrong!)
