Hi Burgers,
On Monday, July 30, half of our community will automatically land on the new Cheezburger site. Instead of clicking to opt-in from the old Cheezburger version, half of you will be redirected to the new Cheezburger. You will still have the option to opt-out, but we do hope you’ll tell us why either here in the comments or by sending us an email.
Redirecting more people over to check out the new Cheezburger will give us the opportunity to hear more feedback about your experience and how well the sites perform for you.
In our blog post, Cheezburger Comments are Here!, we informed you about CheezTech working on the performance issues you reported. We discovered that these issues are related to a technical issue surrounding the infinite scroll feature. In order for us to fix these performance issues, we have to turn off infinite scroll for now. We may keep it off or we may provide an option for you to turn it on or off. We’ll keep you updated as we continue to research these issues. We know that so many of you love this feature, so we apologize for the inconvenience!
Sincerely,
Emily, Will and Heather (Tofu, dollydally81 and poppylady)

lol forever
I hate the new site – the framework on the pictures totally messes up my computer and the scrolling is a real pain. I have been a lol fan for a very long time and have seen several new changes on the site. I really didn’t like the last one too much but this one really just does not work with my computer. I share with my co-workers and now that is almost impossible since the site changes. Not everyone is able to have the newest operating system.
Personally, I think the infinite scroll is a bigger pain than it is worth. Jerky scrolling, leaping when downloading the next page, and getting lost as to where you were in the scroll. I will not be hurt at all if we don’t get it back.
I totally second that. The infinite scroll gives nothing but pain. It mostly even freezes my computer and it is totally more than an office pc. Leave the numbered sites for anti-christs sake! Infinite Scroll – you shall not pass!
+1 hate it, my computer is hemorrhaging
Thats why im here and like this site – you can actual skip to a site -please keep the site with pages- also my computer is frickin lagging on beta
Would it be possible to make the infinite scroll an option that could be disabled? I personally love the infinite scroll, but I can definitely see how it would be an issue at times.
Agree entirely. Beta site very buggy/lags terribly. Infinite scroll is extremely frustrating! Also miss the old commenting interface.
+1
I don’t like it either
I don’t have the processor power to handle the older posts with infinite scroll enabled!
Agreed, I don’t like the infinite scrolling. If I want to go back several days to look at lolz, I want to just pick a page (15, 25, etc). Now I have to keep going down, down, down. I only have a few minutes at a time to look at lolz, infinite scrolling is a waste of time so I just don’t look or I use the old version.
same here, it makes my browser freeze up
i dont mind either, both take the same amount of time loading lol ive got att uverse so it works well for me. my complaint, im a stay at home mom with endless amount of time to fill when im not doing mom stuff, update more often!! i need lolz to pass the boredom, i can only play the stinky feet game with my daughter for so many hours a day lol
I -hate- infinite scrolling. It is one of the banes of my internet existence. Thank you so much for turning it off! I love the page, but haven’t been here much lately sue to the scrolling … it’ll be nice to catch up!
I agree that the infinite scroll isn’t that great; in fact I actively disliked it. For all the reasons listed by Hmph, plus exorbitant RAM usage by the browser if you scroll a long way. This had a tendency to make my Firefox take an *extremely* long time to shut down completely, which is a real issue since I run it from a removable drive. But I assume this is closely related to the “performance issues” you’re trying to fix.
For the record, I’m talking about the PortableApps.com version of Firefox 13 on Windows 7. I don’t know with absolute certainty that it is specifically cheezburger that causes it to behave that way.
I use the firefox add on called page zipper which allows me to scroll through as many pages as I want without having to ever click next. While I am here, I don’t care for the move of the copy describing the picture to the right of the picture, it just does not feel right having to shift my eyes to the right to read and then have to keep shifting back to the picture. It feels much more natural be see the copy BELOW the picture. As long as you leave the dailywh.at site up or the tumblr version, I should be ok. Also, check the blogroll links on the tumblr page, many links don’t work or are outdated. Some sites don’t even exist anymore.
Yay! The pagination is back! Now don’t turn it off again!
I, for one, really like the infinite scrolling. It saves time, it’s easier than waiting for new screens to load, and it makes reading everything on this site much quicker. Please fix it asap!
Me too. I love it. It’s way easier than having to click after just a few posts.
Infinite scrolling is a major pain. I don’t miss it, I hated it from the very first moment I saw it. Can we somehow get the option of choosing normal pages or the stupid infinite scrolling.
^^^ THIS +99,999,999,999
i hope it comes back soon. its so much easier for me to use. i dont get the freezings or the long load time..
i guess i can wait and read more lolz.
I’m on the despising infinite scroll boat as well. I’m happier without it on.
i love the infinite scrolling
I love infinite scroll!
Personally, I like the infinite scroll and hope it comes back soon. I’ve not had issues with it freezing and it makes it easier to keep up with the ICHSB and all the sites.
I love Infinite Scroll, just easier for me. although mine doesn’t take forever to load.
I hate it on tumblr, and I hate it here PERIOD
Ya, I found it to be a pain in the butt. My browsers (Firefox) memory usage went uppp…. upppp…. uppp…. until I would say ‘scroll’ and 30 seconds later, it would say “Oh, who? Me?”. Doing this on a brand new, 3 GHz, oct-core rig, 8 GB DDR3 ram…. frikking liquid cooled and infinite scrolling kills the machine after about page 15….
So… stop using Firefox. It’s never had good resource management, and it doesn’t matter how awesome your system is if you run software that memory leaks.
Infinite scroll, the reason I closed my account.
I much preferred the Infinite Scroll feature. It made it a lot easier to scroll through (especially when you haven’t been on the site for a few days). Maybe it could be made an optional thing?
I don’t mind infnite scroll at all. I have a very powerful PC, an excellent connection, and so it doesn’t
take long at all for pages to load and be accessible. Scrolling is smooth and precise.
That said, I know there are many who don’t have very powerful machines or perhaps do not have
a high-speed connection, so in the interest of fairness, I would opine that if the majority of viewers
have issues with that function, then it should probably go away for the greater good.
I love the infinite scroll, but I think you should make it an option to turn on/off. That would please everyone.
Good luck fixing the bugs!
Ditto. Love scroll, give choices, and everybody else stop whining.
I defiantly agree with this. I was looking for someone else with this idea. I think you should be able to go into your profile and change whether or not you want to have infinite scrolling enabled. I love infinite scrolling and apparently there are a few around here that do. By and large, however, most people don’t seem to like it. Adding the option for the dedicated Cheezburger user to use infinite scroll at their discretion will keep up the lolz and appease everyone.
I was so happy to have proper pages back, but now I’m sad to know that the crappy infinite scrolling might come back. I hope you’ll at least have a cookie-based option to turn it off?
Infinite scroll is great! I hope it get fixed soon, I never experienced any problem myself.
Wow, thanks so much for all your comments! It is so valuable to us to hear these different experiences, preferences, and OS/browsers related to infinite scroll. We are researching the idea of giving an option to turn infinite scroll on or off. Thanks for all of your kind words and I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I am very happy to have found this feedback opportunity, thank you people for my favorite website, along with Sci-Tech Daily and The Cure chat rooms! I did not know this new feature was called infinite scroll, I don’t like it at all, I do not want to start at page 1 every time, and go one page at a time, without any choice. That strikes me as decreased functionality, not improved. If you will put the option of switching this feature off I will be grateful, as it has drastically reduced the time I spend on the new site.
I don’t see why it would take much researching… just a simple option. i like pages not scrolling, but it SHOULD be something people can choose
from reading the comments, looks like all of you could quite possibly using firefox. try using a different browser and if the problem goes away then thats that firefox isnt as good of a browser… i use google chrome and personally i absolutely loved infinite scroll. it saves bandwidth having not to load a new page every time, it only has to extend off of one that is already open. please dont take infinite scroll away, it pleases more than punishes and its nice not to have to scroll then click rather than just scrolling. i hope all you haters out there understand and at least try a different browser and give it a shot before complaining about every little upgrade they do to make things better.
Hi Scott,
Way to blame the victims! If firefox users can’t use this site they should get a different browser? Sorry, but the developers of the site need to take into consideration all users, not just ones with a particular browser, or a fast computer. They are doing the right thing by trying to fix the problem, rather than ask us to switch browsers.
Having said that, I do like infinite scroll and hope it will come back as an option. On the other hand, I’d still like to be able to jump to a particular page — especially I’d still like to go back to the beginning. Love that original Cheezburger cat!
In my daily catch-up on many of your sub-sites, I like coming to the end of a page and being able to switch sites. Infinite scrolling is a drag.
Infinite scroll is waaaay better. Having to click a button and loan an entirely new page is sooooo 2009.
i loved it pls it work fine on crome……………
I’m in the pro-infinite-scroll camp. It’s the good stuff. Would be great if we could have an option to set it.
I used infinite scroll on the images section on Know Your Meme, and I have no issues. I think infinite scroll is a good idea. Sorry hmph, but I have to disagree with you on this issue.
I don’t know why yours doesn’t stop and bounce about when it loads the ‘new page’.
But I *am* glad it works for you. $:)
WTF is infinite scroll?
You know when you get to the bottom of the page and it says next and back? well infinite scroll removes that and allows you to scroll down endlessly
Yep, put me on the Hate Boat for Infinite Scroll–not only does it destabilize my work computer (I like the five-minute vacations I get from Cheezburger) but pagination means I can go back to a particular LOL when I want it.
You should of just left it as is and just add an option somewhere for people who have weaker computers to turn off infinite scroll.
Yea I honestly don’t like Infinite scroll either, so having to choose the option of either/or would be quite preferable plz and ty
I prefer infinate scroll off.
Also I’ve been getting a ton of 504 gateway errors.
Yay! This means I’ll actually be able to enjoy cheezburger sites for a day or two until you fix it. After that, Cheezburger will be just a website I used to read.
I get the emails, is switching off infininte scroll the reason I’m only getting the first 3-4 pix this week? I love it, just scoll down all the pix, not have tahe pain of waiting for a new page to load. I almost never go to the website. i was using IE7, but got Firefox last nite, no diff with cheezeburger wmails.
I hate infinite scroll, I can limit myself to pages per sitting to keep my social life sane. But now, I can’t… Cheezburger is attempting to consume my life!
What a bunch of whiners, bring back the scroll it’s better hands down!!!
I prefer the over all site navigation links at the bottom, rather than that horrid hover list at the top. And the vote, favorites being off to the right is rather annoying.
Okay…and I’m a techobabble idiot, so I have no idea what “infinite scrolling’ is, but I much prefer thew page numbers at the bottom. It does make it easier to jump from page to page if you’re looking for something from a particular date. The new choice of just “NEXT” is very limiting and I like it not.
That’s too bad. I noticed there was now a “continue” button at the bottom and my first thought was, “Oh good! They fixed it! That infinite scroll was annoying!” Oh well…I guess it will be coming back. :-/
I can no longer see ANY cheezburger comments. All I get is facebook comments and then a stupid ‘wait’ circle going round and round and round and round…
Hi Erin, We are not seeing this on our end. Please send us a screenshot of what you’re seeing as an attachment to contactus@cheezburger.com. Thanks! Will
I do NOT like infinite scroll. it seems to freeze my computer.
The infinite scroll is a terrible idea. It makes the page take forever to load, and it’s visually unappealing. Please either get rid of it altogether, or give users the option to switch it on or off.
Oh, please don’t go back to infinite scrolling! It’s terribly unmanageable with most pointing devices, it takes up a ton or RAM, and eventually it makes my entire computer freeze.
I loved the infinite scroll. Please at least give us an option of choosing infinite scroll or not. Its the best way to keep everyone happy!
Oh no! What happened to the RSS feeds!?
So glad we can opt out of it.
I hate infinite scroll!
I have been visiting this site for over 2 years, if this is the new format for TDW I’m done. Bye!
Personally not really digging the new format. The page takes forever to load and I can’t just click thru all the LOLs anymore. I used to come here everyday and just click thru everything until I got to the ones I had seen the day before, now I only see random ones that show up in my FB News Feed. I know I’m missing plenty because I don’t want to scroll past 100 comments to finally make it to the links at the bottom of the page. Lazy? perhaps.
Not a big fan… liked the old site personally.
I only read the lols on my android smart phone, and I hate to use the mobile version, so I read the regular page. The format of the new page doesn’t fit the screen anymore. Picture format was always good, I could the the title, photo and caption all at once. Now I can only see the photo by itself, or just the title and caption. Landscape view only lets me see the top or bottom half of the lol, at least at a size I can read it. I really prefer the classic site. I know you just came out with an iphone app, I would like to try an android app. Love teh lols!
Almost forgot. Also cannot find the hot buttons. I cannot easily go from homepage to lolcats to must have cute. Maybe I’m being silly, but still can’t find the links
I love the new website. the only thing i miss is the searchbar, if you could bring that back, you would have alot more support from me.
We will be bringing back the search at some point. With the redesign, it was given much greater prominence on the site. But, as people started using it more we found that it wasn’t quite ready for prime time. For example, a search for the word “cat” yielded no results.
That being said, you can still reach search at http://search.cheezburger.com
We apologize for the inconvenience!
I like the new look a lot.
I’m more concerned with the drop in quality – the links just aren’t as interesting or funny as they were even two months ago. Not every flash mob is interesting, not every cat video is cute, and not every commercial is clever and needs to go viral.
.
I personally both don’t mind, and dislike the infinite scroll. I don’t mind it personally because my processor can handle it, and it’s probably my least concern when it comes to the new beta. Personally my most disliked this about the new Beta is the shift of stories and titles to the side, I use Dailywh.at a lot and it is much easier, and much more natural for when I scroll, the stories to follow, but this new way I feel I’m judging the pictures by their look, much like judging a book by it’s cover and I do not like that. It feels much more natural to have the stories follow as I scroll, than this new “Facebook Timeline Esque Look” of going down, stop, go to the right, go back and forth as you read to connect it all, then continue. It was much easier to just scroll down bit by bit as I read without having to stop my scroll completely to look to the side, I find it completely annoying. It may be nitpicky but this seems to irk me a lot for some reason.
Also, as you can see a lot of people cannot handle the infinite scroll option, since it seems to take a good bit of processor to run, so I’m just going to make another complaint for them, since I don’t think others should have to suffer.
Also another problem seems to be videos, I noticed this during the beta shift of one of the sites, in this new site, you cannot see a video’s title while watching it, for some reason it won’t appear, which means, if you want to get the url, or favorite the video, or go to it because it’s lagging; you have to wait till the video ends and then hope you get the title, if not, well, not sure what you can do if you can’t get the Copy Url W/Current Time to work, which sometimes it doesn’t, I use it a LOT. So if I’m going to have to use this, that would be something nice to fix.
And lastly, if there is still a way to opt-out and go back to the old format, like you say. “You will still have the option to opt-out, but we do hope you’ll tell us why either here in the comments or by sending us an email.” I would like to know where to find it, because I’m searching and currently cannot, because if there’s a way to go back to the old format while I still can, I’d prefer to do that. As soon as possibly.
Thank you.
I have to agree with the issue of having the text on the right. I click on the videos from my RSS feed and I keep having to look for the description, because I keep forgetting that instead of having the description below the video (which is standard practice on the interwebs), you have it in the side bar, which I generally ignore because it’s the side bar.
Very, very clunky design.
DON’T LIKE IT.
I miss the colectibles. Could you bring those back?
I strongly dislike the big clunky next/previous page buttons as well as the exclusion of the helpful sidebars that list the “Meme Flavors”. I feel like the buttons being bigger makes the page feel smaller as well as there being fewer actual memes per page. Those are the only problems I really have with that version though.
Your site is designed horribly. It’s the laggiest herky jerkiest site I’ve ever seen on the internet. I’m telling you this cause we’re bros and bros tell each other the truth. I visit your site every day and my computer hates it. Sometimes my browser, which works fine everywhere else has a heart attack and dies on your site. It makes me wonder what kind of giant monstrosities of useless code must be buried under all the delightfully funny pictures and videos to make a page with only 9 or 10 visible media objects on it behave like you’re trying to boot up Skynet on a netbook. If 35mbps internet on a decent machine with Firefox or Chrome each with some performance tweaks can’t do it, you got some problems. You gotta clear some rubble before starting new buildings. Also, I like the infinite scroll. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for me. It’s the initial load of the page that kills my computer.
I can’t actually look at this new version of the site from work. I guess the military hates to have updated software. I think they’re still on IE version 6. Just silly.
Bring back infinite scroll
I’m actually a bit surprised that your A/B testing didn’t show that people spent longer on the site with infinite scroll enabled…
change it baaaaack I dislike the new version.
Retweets in every comments of every post are annoying, get that fixed out..
i hate it sorry
Ever since the site changed, the page has taken so long to load it feels like we’ve been sent back to dial-up dark ages. However, infinite scroll was worth the wait. I like keeping track of how many pages it’s been since I last read through and just by looking up at the address bar I was able to keep that feature.
But now that cheezburger has second-guessed itself and went back to page by page, I feel jipped. It is much more difficult to read. After I click the button for the next page, I then have to hide the cursor or it will annoyingly hang above what I’m reading. It is interrupting and time-wasting and if the content weren’t so amusing, I would have dropped this site off my daily routine long ago.
Please do something, it grows ever-more burdensome each day.
Please stop “improving” a good thing. It is harder to enjoy that what you are supposed to be improving just like all sites think they are making it ‘better’ they are just making it not so much fun as before. Rethink your tinker.
I don’t like the new version. I get all excited when the page loads and it’s the original version, but then as soon as I click on “next” it switches to the new version and I get really annoyed. Also, there seems to be more ads and bigger buttons but less content that I actually want to see.
I’ve tried it for a while now. I still think it’s awful to have the titles to the right of the images. Do whatever else you want, but move the titles so that they’re above, please.
Titles will be moved soon! We are in the final stages of testing this.
I dislike the new site I hate that the titles of the pictures are now beside them and not on top of them. Some creators use the title as a lead into the captions that are in the picture and with the titles beside them the flow no longer works well.
Another dislike is that there are no numbers or first and last links to the pages. There are days that I just like to sit and go through older pictures. Once I catch up on the new ones of the day I like to skip to the last page I was on and continue back from there. The new site just has previous and next and that just doesn’t cut it for me.
ick – this looks more like “THAT” social networking site now rather than a fun happy site where folks just came for a few laughs. Ick.
Delete function DOES NOT WORK!!!!!
I like your old system better, and I always click the “Old Cheezburger” button to view things.
me gusta……… bring back the infinite scroll feature right meow! pweeze
I like the new design. The only thing that’s missing is the “Previous – Next” thingies for easier navigation.
I like the way it’s set out and the way that you can go back to the old version as well. Websites that don’t do that (like Facebook) are crappy because they keep changing the layout before you can get used to the old one :\
You say we can opt out of the new layout, but we can’t on the ROFLympics page. Clicking the “Back to the old Cheezburger” button does nothing, it just reloads the page in the same layout.
Hi Jo. We’re working on fixing that bug. Our ROFLympics site is only on our new platform. Thanks! Emily
a perfect example of “if it ain’t broke, fix it till it breaks” You had no reason to do it
The new website is buggy. I cannot see content and infinite scroll does not work consistently. It takes a long time to load pages. And I don’t like the title on the right side of the image. This is why I stopped coming to cheezburger sites.
One thing I like about the beta site is the top navigation. I find it very easy to use. All the Cheezburger sites are there, unlike the old page. I also like that it stays visible as you scroll down the page. When I come to Cheezburger, I usually spend a while checking out what’s new and visit a lot of different pages so I like that the navigation is easier.
One thing I would like to see is a “jump to” page feature, so if I want to go to page 10 of LOLCats I don’t have to click through 10 pages to get there. I also think it would be cool if there was a “random” button on each page to bring up a random post on that site.
Overall, I think the new site is cleaner looking and it loads faster on my computer.
I am the unlucky one that gets directed to the new site without the option to opt out. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT! \becaaause faliblog and memebase wont load for over a month now. I CANT VIEW IT at ALL. I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH ALL THESE CHANGES. It freezes my computer and I have to crash it and restart. Its like your doing it on purpose so i will never come back. I stopped viewing this site for months now because of a ll the changes. I couldnt view pages, computer freezes and crashes. It skips, gets lost, and signs me out of my account like 40 times in a row. |Why i am i getting signed out of my account??????? who is signing me out of my account constantly while i am trying to view cheezeburger.??? What the heck is that all about??? If it was hackers what is the point? who cares. THE PAGES TAKE LONGER TO LOAD TOO ON BETA FOR MY COMPUTER.. I timed it at 45 seconds to load each page, thats nearly a minute to load a page, waste of time.
I think the new version is great but you guys need to bring back the infinite scroll. Also I am having a bug where I can’t favourite things on the homepage and sometimes even on my dashboard. Keep the good work up!
Infinite scroll? Either it’s gone or my computer is weird, either way, I don’t like the concept.
Text on the right side of the pictures? It confused the hell out of me at first, didn’t even see it there. I just thought you stopped putting any kind of text. I don’t like it one bit.
The list of cheezburger/memebase/failblog sites at the bottom, nicely cathegorized? My morning routine depended on that list. It’s absence disturbs me more than anything else in the new beta. I want it back!!! You can keep the new menu at the top for all I care. It’s probably a nice concept, but it doesn’t do it for me. I like the nice static list of links so I imediately find the site I’m looking for. (Maybe I would be more inclined to use the menu style lists if the sites were ordered the same way as in the old list).
Why, for the love of cheezburgers, did you remove the buttons/links to go to last or first page? I quite often like to go the the oldest page of a site to start reading the old stuff. Just put them back next to the Next and Previous buttons. And on the same topic, bring back the numbered list (of links) to the pages. It’s usefull.
For now I don’t like the new version of the site at all. It’s confusing, has removed alot of usefull functionality, and it feels like it’s wasting more space than the old one.
I use the Beta opt out for every page I can. And by the way, the Beta opt out doesn’t work on the ROFLympics site. Please fix that for us.
I’m no big fan either. Whenever I first open the website my computer freezes, something that normally never happens. After a second or 10 all’s good and I can browse all the cheezburger websites again though. I still think it’s rather odd! On an other note, I liked the infinite scrolling better than the next buttons.
I hate change. Give me the old website back!
Hate the new site. Scrolling is jerky, layout is distracting. Makes me not want to visit thedailywhat anymore because it slows my computer down so much.
I got used to the infinite scrolling, but every 10 minutes or so, it would refresh and come up with the wrong formatting. So far haven’t had that problem with the Next Page buttons.
IDEA: have more lols per page! instead of only 5 or 10 lols, have 20 so we can spend more time on a page and less time clicking Next.
Also, BRING BACK THE SEARCH!!!! The worst thing about Beta is that there is no way to search. Or if there is, I haven’t found it. I have to always go back to the old cheezburger to search…
The new comment system is junk.
All the new comments are pretty much witless retweet which brings no lol and is a big eyesore.
The old comments works. There are so many times the comments outshine the captioned picture. Soooo much more information too.
And now it is a sea of retweets, and FB comment does not add much either.. Really sharp comments just won’t come out of anyone with a real name..
To illustrate my point, I am going to retweet this page a hundred times. You will know what I meant..
agreed …
It’s really bloody annoying. Please keep the old format!!!
Seriously? I’ll just make a list: no zooming without entering a post and them viewing image only, ugly bubble design on everything, huge aggressive links to networking sites, poor multiclick navigation, pain in the butt drop down for navigation, clicking “take me to full site” redirects me to the crappy new site, less information given, no links to related posts, and it’s generally just more of a pain in the butt. I’d really like to see the old site come back. This is not an improvement. Oversimplifying the internet is not a way to make it better. We are not as dumb as many sites think we are. I’ve always come here because you’re a one stop shop and you’ve never tried to baby us before. Looks like good things do come to and end.
Not a fan of the new look. The text on the right is counter intuitive and the font is too small.
Yeah, not a fan. I enjoy the old site/look MUCH better.
My opinion is the site is kinda ugly. The old site was so much better. Learn from facebook and its fails. Chance isn’t necessary.
Kattweard here:
You turned Cheezburger into a Boca Burger, I want like to opt back to what the site was when I first registered: Cheezburger voting, easy ability to comment, no linkage to FB, simple to navigate without all the fluff…
I’ve been on the net since the early 80′s and just because you can change does not mean you should. When something becomes an institution, like when Coca Cola messed with the formula, well, you know the results. With me, it’s a visit the ICHC about once or twice a month now instead of the at least once a day that it used to be. That a lot fewer views from my eyes on your advertisers’ entreaties.
Give me back a Cheezburger experience that worked, was fun and caused me to want to visit frequently. Include in that the true font page, not shuttling the LOLcats off to secondary status.
don’t like the new site format at all. i understand you did it to match the other sites in the family, but it sucks. i miss the old format. i find this one irritating and now I hardly ever visit any more because of it. I was usually on several times a day…now maybe once a week. i’ll go elsewhere.
How do I opt out?
the only thing i find funny about is in this day and age with all the technology available, hell, they can transmit images from another planet to us in less than 20 minutes yet you cant even have a site that works! Absolute rubbish, always freezes up when trying to click on a certain picture to read
I agree with the concerns involving resource allocation and navigation interface. There has to be a way to unload content when using infinite scrolling otherwise the browser has to continuously call for more memory as you scroll.
As for the other concern on navigation, there are many pages on this site and your derivative sites such as KYM, etc. which contain very large numbers of pictures and they become tedious to navigate. If you want to for example work your way through a page with 500+ images, you might not wish to attempt in one session. With infinite scrolling you must retrace all of your progress each time you want to pick up where you left off.
These are problems that you can currently encounter at Know Your Meme. I love infinite scrolling and I think it can be a great feature if done right. It has problems on its own, but these problems can be fixed by giving people navigational tools and overall more accessibility to their browsing experience.
A possible solution would be adding a sorting tool which asks where in the set of sorted image you would like to start your infinite scrolling. Ex: I would like to start at number 450 of the most recent images for Lolcats (or Failblog, etc.) This means that you the user will not have to load the first 450 images into your computer’s memory. You guys could include other features such as: A ‘drop memory’ button, an infinite scroll toggle option, or a ‘save location’ button for logged in users.
tl;dr -
People love to have control over their browsing experience. The more tools and options you can supply, the more homely your site will feel. In my opinion having the choice between conventional pages and infinite scroll would provide the most satisfaction to the most people.
I HATE the new site! well, I just hate that the layout is messed up on my computer and it makes it impossible to view. Half of everything is covered up by links/words and the other half gets covered up when I accidentally scroll over a link and more links pop up for other areas of the site. I’m about ready to give up! Please tell me how to opt out, Ive been searching all over the site and cant figure it out!
This might be caused by an older version of your browser. Have you checked to see if your browser needs to be updated?
i hate it !!! it freezes my computer and releases it with a huge loud ass BEEP !!
I.T. professional here… First off, thanks for the lulz. But mostly, I am here to lament the fact that your website kills my PC dead whenever I’m on it…
I will keep visiting for the lulz, but it does kind of kill my soul when my entire PC becomes non-responsive for minutes at a time between clicks of your site.
